What’s New 2006

November 12:
Voltairine is now a "calendar girl"...She is featured in a new atheist calendar for 2007 entitled "Atheists." Her birthday is November 17th so her photo is on the November page. It's a beautiful calendar, quite professional-looking, featuring the a photo of a prominent atheist each month. The birthdays of many more well-known people who were atheists are noted for each month. Click here for more details.

2005:

September 8:
The sad and tragic aftermath of Hurricane Katrina once again illustrates the fact that government does not protect those it is supposed to serve. Read first hand accounts by residents of New Orleans provided by anarchist feminist Kate, herself a displaced resident. Read how government agencies not only failed to provide support but also interfered with private efforts to help those in need. Voltairine would not be surprised. She would weep. Click here: Katrina and the State.

August 20:
VDC's poem "The Gods and the People" has been posted under Essays.

July 16:
Links to three essays and two book reviews about historical women resisters to authority have been added. One essay is a longer version of the one in Exquisite Rebel discussing Voltairine de Cleyre's feminism.  Click here.

July 12:
Emma Goldman was a colleague of Voltairine's, one of America's greatest resisters to authority. Her words on patriotism are as relevant now as when she first staed them. Alas. We have posted them here.

July 9:
Voltairine may be coming into her own: there are THREE different anthologies that have come out in the last year. See our home page. Good news for fans of VDC; the 3 books all have some essays the other don't. For a comparison of the three books, click here.

May 2:
Two new pages have been added: One that gives a short photo "essayette" on Sharon's talk on "American Women Resisters to Authority."  Click here.
